Please note: Applicants will perform the role in National Office in Canberra. Hybrid working arrangements (i.e. a combination of onsite attendance at an AEC office and remote working) will be considered at the discretion of the hiring manager.

Job details

The AEC is seeking a DevOps Engineer to work effectively with technical teams such as the development teams, hosting platforms teams and Enterprise Integration Teams.  

DevOps Engineers will establish and maintain Azure DevOps pipelines, repositories, and artefacts, ensuring that deployed applications are current in their toolsets, resilient, secure and automated wherever possible. In collaboration with other teams in the work area, these roles will investigate and resolve complex issues with the operation of  applications. 

Key duties and responsibilities

Essential skills and experience 

  • The role will be responsible for, but not limited to:  

    • Designing, implementing, and managing CI/CD pipelines, automating deployment processes for developed solutions while maintaining a keen focus on efficiency and reliability.  

    • Overseeing the configuration and management of development, testing, and production hosting environments, ensuring accurate replication of real-world conditions for rigorous integration testing.  

    • Applying advanced scripting and automation skills using tools like PowerShell, ARM templates, Bicep, and YAML to improve efficiency and reliability of deployments.  

    • Implementing comprehensive monitoring solutions to track the performance, availability, and security of integration solutions. Configure alerting systems to facilitate proactive issue resolution.  

    • Integrating automated testing into CI/CD pipelines to enhance software quality and reliability, including security testing practices, Static Application Security Testing (SAST) and Dynamic Application Security Testing (DAST), to ensure the integrity of developed solutions.  

    • Working closely with cross-functional teams, including developers, Cyber Security, system analysts, integration testers, and other stakeholders to align DevOps practices with project goals and timelines, fostering a culture of collaboration.  

    • Maintaining comprehensive documentation of deployment processes, configurations, and best practices, facilitating knowledge sharing and future reference.  

    • Perform additional duties or assume responsibility of functions as directed from time to time.  

    The candidate must hold an active NV1 security clearance prior to commencement.

Criteria

The buyer has specified that each candidate must provide a one page pitch to address all criteria specified. This is equal to 5000 characters. 

Essential criteria

    1. Extensive experience with Azure DevOps including building and maintaining complex Azure DevOps pipelines.  

    • -Experience implementing IAC (Infrastructure as Code) with CI/CD (Azure DevOps / GitHub).  

    • -Experience with GIT version control and common branching strategies.  

    • -Hands on experience with deploying and maintaining Azure resources including Azure App Service and similar.  

    • -Experience in working with major Cloud Platforms (e.g. Azure / AWS / Google Cloud), including platform administration, application troubleshooting and FinOps right-sizing of resources.  

    • -Experience with developing system automation and deployment scripts in PowerShell.  

    • -Demonstrated experience troubleshooting complex applications deployed across multiple hosting platforms (On Prem/Cloud)  

    • -Experience collaborating in software development activities, participating in code reviews etc.

Desirable criteria

  1. Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field (or equivalent experience).  

  1. Hands on experience with application development, including build and deployment systems.  

Additional requirements

Due to the requirement for immediate access to PROTECTED information and systems, personnel proposed for this role must hold a current NV1 security clearance at commencement.
